Building Inspection / Overview

The objective of the Building Inspection Services is to ensure the health, safety, accessibility for persons with disabilities, fire and structural protection of buildings, energy and water efficiency and protection of persons and property by confirming that buildings and their systems generally conform to relevant bylaws, the BC Building Code and other applicable standards.

The BC Local Government Act authorizes Regional Districts to regulate the construction, alteration, repair or demolition of buildings and structures in accordance with the BC Building Code and through the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George Building Bylaw 1561.

Building Inspection provides interim spot checks on the construction stages in accordance with the BC Building Code and building plans that have been submitted for a permit.  A permit is required for construction, alteration, repair or demolition of a building or structure, building relocations, masonry fireplaces and solid fuel burning appliances and chimneys, as well as, plumbing systems.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George provides a building inspection service within all its electoral areas and by contract to the Village of McBride.
